Thank you for the kind comment. We were driving back to our hotel through Yellowstone NP after a busy driving and walking day, we saw a turning in the road we had never gone down before. After only 5 minutes driving we came across this thermal pool, the low lighting and sky was beautiful, I got some pictures and drove on around another bend and came across a steaming thermal lake, an incredible sight, another walk and numerous pictures, returned to the car very tired but at least I slept well when we returned to the hotel.
This is stunning Ian. The clouds!! and that steam coming off the lake is so beautiful too. If it is a secret I totally understand and you can just say that but, how do you get that deep blue to come through when the rest of your landscape is on the verge of darkness. I am always trying to get the image to look like what it actually does as I am taking it and this image in particular has such a true blue sky. Beautiful.
Hi, the picture is of the Great Fountain Geyser, its on the Firehole Lake Drive which is a loop road just off the route leading to Old Faithful from Madison, inside the Yellowstone NP. You will have to keep a good look out for the turn as we drove past it numerous times.
Sorry forgot to mention the photograph. The light was getting low and directly towards the camera, I exposed for the sky which gave me the correct exposure for the rich blue sky and reflection, this then put everything else into shadow, the contrast levels were tweaked very slightly in Photoshop just to finish it off.
Once again thank-you. We were driving back to our hotel through Yellowstone NP after a busy driving and walking day, we saw a turning in the road we had never gone down before.
